135 Gallon Aquarium Starting Point :: Aquarium Set Up and ...
The aquarium was a little old and pretty used up, and the glass on both front and back panels was scratched up so there was really not a good viewing window to choose but, to me it was a steal considering that just the XP2 filter cost 180 some... My first what I would consider big aquarium would be my 135 gallon aquarium that I got right after the purchase of my home in summer of 2005. After I had all the items I needed, I set up the aquarium on the floor of my office because the stand I got with the purchase i discovered was really water damaged and I didnt think that I wanted to depend on it to hold up 135 gallons of water in... So I had to buy a bigger heater, and after some research figured out that if I wanted to keep more fish I needed more filtration power and bought another filter, and after some more research bought sand to replace gravel. Considering I had the filter, lights from previous purchases, enough heaters from previous purchases, and gravel I thought I was set, I thought that this was all that’s needed. After researching a bit on the Internet it turns out that my heaters were not enough, my filtration was not good enough either, and the gravel was not going to work for the kind of fish I wanted to keep in there. I knew about what kind of equipment I need but I didn’t know what size it needs to be for a this particular size of aquarium. My boggiest aquarium before this was 29 gallons, compared to that this was a monster.
