DIY Saltwater Aquarium Sump |
It looks and works like any other bubble trap except that I've put a couple filters in. It's not impeding the flow and I've got some added filtration (currently a carbon filter and an ordinary filter). I think what I like best about it is the fact that there's not a whole bunch of stuff in my tank anymore because it's in the sump. The sump tank didn't really take me that long to build. I've created 2 compartments in the aquarium (as well as a bubble trap). To start out with we have an old aquarium (10 gallon +, mine is 15 gallons). the first compartment is where the overflow from the overflow box (also known as a weir) comes in. The heater is in this section as well as the protein skimmer. Updates will be forthcoming with schematics and any additions (CO2 reactor and a calcium reactor). After the water passes through the bubble trap it enters what will be the refugium.
