Vacuum Brands: How Do I Work A Fish Tank Vacuum? (1/4/2012)
A “siphon” or a “siphon pump” is the same as a fish tank “vacuum. From there, just keep it in the tank until you are done, then all you need to do is just take out the large end from the tank. All you need to do is take the larger side with the opening, stick it into the tank and put it sideways, then take the smaller end of the tube, and suck. ” They all work the same way, by sucking up water into a bucket/sink and removing extra waste from your tank which has settled deep below the gravel/sand. Repeat the process for as much water as you need to be taking out, probably 25% for a weekly water change. Suck the end of the tube until the water is close to coming out, then stick the smaller end into a sink, or a bucket, whichever, in order to start the suction. You probably don’t want to end up drinking your dirty fish water, now do you. Don’t be worried, just time it right, and put the smaller end of the tube downwards in the bucket to cause some movement so that the water will be able to go into it and start the siphon.
