Dec. 15 – i squali! i delfini! « Living Life
I got my train ticket and spoke to the ticket person in Italian, however, I’m not sure he realized I needed a ticket to Florence since as the train showed up I realized that my ticket only went to Pisa. I stood in front of the tank for a really long time just watching them. There was this entirely different building in the aquarium that’s nothing but “touching tanks” though they put sting rays in them…go figure. But one of the tanks was a Finding Nemo exhibit. no joke, legit Finding Nemo, Disney/Pixar brand tank. After the aquarium (and a quick scare of losing my coat in the aquarium. So I got off the train at Pisa and paid for the train back to Florence. Being in the aquarium I found myself learning new vocab in Italian that I wasn’t learning in class and felt perfectly justified in not going to class. I did that calculation completely wrong as it usually takes us 30 minutes to walk to the train station…but somehow I made it with extra time to spare. My train was at 7:55 so I figured I could leave at 7:30 and get there with time to spare. I didn’t really have a map of the city, so I looked at a posted one and then started walking. I looking up some things and found an aquarium in Genova that sounded cool. As we didn’t use the train that weekend, I had two days of Eurail to use. I had purchased a Eurail for Italy after carefully calculating my trips and it was going to be cheaper with a Eurail than individual tickets. As I didn’t take my Italian homework with me to Switzerland, I had to get up last week Monday in order to do the homework before class. The rest of the aquarium was pretty much as I had expected, but they did have bottlenose dolphins which I haven’t really ever seen. And the kids in the aquarium were adorable (most of the time) and would yell ‘mama. However, I got up and starting doing other things and decided I didn’t want to go to Italian as annoying and frustrating as it’s been lately. i squali. Bt the city had more Christmas market stands, so I walked through those. The aquarium was really cool too. Being by myself though I had a lot of time to think about things and realized that I’m a little travelled out. There was this cool pirate ship in port that kids were crawling all over and then I found the aquarium. Walking around a city that’s just “pretty” doesn’t do it for me anymore. I slept just about the entire 3 hour train ride and then froze my butt off when I got to Genova. I’m almost tired of looking at pretty things. It’s really a bad thing that it’s next door to us until we leave. ) I walked around the city for a bit. And it’s also the place for pesto, but as pesto and I have a love/hate relationship, I was happy with just the focaccia. So Tuesday (as it was a national holiday and everything was closed including school) I woke up and went to Genova.
