I wanted a aquarium, so searched around online and saw this on YouTube . Bought the book 'Aquariums for Dummies' and ordered my 12 gallon Fluval Edge in black from Petco and all my other supplies from Dr. Foster and Smith. and Substrates,plus Fluval Edge Accessories> heater, algae magnet,digital thermometer on Wed. It's a deep tank and tricky to stick arm in but not a big deal My substrate is 4''deep(not sure if this is too deep) but looks nice with the color and texture contrast. Used 'EcoComplete Black Substrate' and 'Caribsea Sunset Gold Substrate Sand' but really one bag is more than plenty. I live in a rural area so bought live plants from liveaquaria and they were excellant,healthy,lush and in winter too. It took 4 hours to fill (using a large measuring cup) and do planting.
