Because of this pre-filter, I only have to change the filter cartridge about once a month. Even though these are manufactured by Fluval, they work on filters that are not made by Fluval. Note: These pre-filter sponges will work for brands that are not Fluval, but only smaller models designed for 5 to 10-gallon tanks. I have used one of these as a pre-filter on an Aqueon QuietFlow 10, and I now use one on a Cascade 150 in a tank with some fish and one shrimp. The intakes on larger filters are too large for these sponges to fit. 99 I spent on three of these filters paid for itself within the first month of use.
