Even in an automated system that flushes out certain components or runs certain cycles, that system still needs to be properly checked, tuned up, and certain components like filters or anodes will need to be cleaned or replaced periodically. So the bottom line is: it is very important that you or someone you hire, perform the manufacturer’s prescribed maintenance procedures very closely to maintain product warranties and help to ensure that your waterfall looks great and works... The closest you might come to a no maintenance feature is to have a service contract in place where the required procedures are performed by someone other than yourself or your client. And even then, you will still have to perform cosmetic maintenance like wiping fingerprints or cleaning glass as needed when the technician is not onsite for their regular visit.
