I chose this model because it uses an air stone, and it was cheap, although in retrospect, I think the Penn Plax "Quick Draw" corner filter is probably better designed. The Triple Flow series is a little bit odd for a box filter in that the filter draws in water through three downward facing vents. The only other thing to nitpick about is that the lift tube is too close to the corner of the filter, which makes it hard to pack filter media around it. The penn plax filters use a more centrally located lift tube, and so are probably easier to... Most boxes simply draw water in through a vented top. Lee’s and Penn Plax both offer two cheapy boxes, the "economy" and "bubbler" respectively – but I would overlook these models since they don’t use an air-stone and have tiny lift tubes, they’re probably not very efficient, and the larger bubbles... This particular filter is the Lee’s "Triple Flow" small corner filter. There is a tiny vent hole in the top to let this air out, but it doesn’t seem to be large enough to let it all out. Because the top does not feature any vents, it tends to trap air when you put the filter into the tank, and this causes it to float.
